Rat-proof composting with Worms - 2025 10 15
Last night I made a 45-minute presentation to the Grandview Garden Club about what I have learned about worm composting and the impact it has had on our garden here at Ferndale St.
I told the story in two chapters. The first chapter provided context for the condition of the garden when the worms arrived and the progress we have made over two growing seasons since introducing worm castings to the mix. The second chapter told the story of my history with worms, since I got my first worms, cocoons and nesting materials in the summer of 2023.
It was an interesting process to write through those stories. I learned more about my own growth as a gardener and a worm cultivator.
One of the surprising offshoots from the presentation was the ideas that emerged for increasing our neighbourhood capacity and capability to cultivate worms and improve permaculture gardening.
